Drawings, Prints, and Books

Illustrations for American Weather (1-6). These are the first six glaze paintings on ceramic tiles that will illustrate Newlights Press’s forthcoming book, American Weather, a chapbook essay by Mia Alvarado. The essay is a discussion of gun culture from the NRA to the firing range, centered around a narrative about a mass shooting that started on our street in 2015. The tiles are paintings from photographs I took of the shop of RAWTools, a local organization that buys back guns from the community and smiths them into garden tools.

Completed in 2018, The Palingenesis is my debut as an author and my first collaboration with Aaron Cohick of NewLights Press. Above is a sampling of the text and drawings therein. Aaron designed the cover and book structure and printed the book on letterpress and Risograph. I drew the portraits and wrote the text. An edition of 150, the book is available for sale on the NewLights Press website. It will also be for sale at NewLights’s table at the Los Angeles Art Book Fair, April 12th-14th, 2019.

Above is the photo of a book cover design I created in 2016 for a chapbook of collaborative-correspondence-poetry between Bernadette Mayer and Laynie Browne. The chapbook was published by Chris Martin, and you can find it for sale at Further Other Book Works.
